If you’re a fan of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, then we would like to tell that soon have yet another adaptation on the lengthy list to select from, with the popular streaming service lifting up an 8-episode series based on the first book in the series, simply titled Anne. The show, which has already premiered in Canada and is being fronted by Breaking Bad alum Moira Walley-Beckett, follows a young orphan (Amybeth McNulty) who is accidentally adopted by an aging brother (R.H. Thomson) and sister (Geraldine James) in the 1990’s on Prince Edward Island. Though they had initially sent for a damsel, they take Anne in and watch as she converses their quiet town with her determination and imagination.
The trailer is not miserly about plot details or info, taking us through all the classic moments from the novel of Montgomery: the town’s original disinclination to accept Anne, her promising friendship with Diana, and, of course, her competition with Gilbert Blythe.
We even get a glance of what is likely the book’s most popular scene, where Anne, delicate about her red hair, smacks Gilbert with a chalk slate for calling her Carrots. (Though this version does not look closely as pleasing as the one from the 1985 miniseries, where she straight-up breaks it over his head.) Meanwhile, if you haven’t activated this streaming service then do it today by stepping ahead to Netflix Com Activate or simply contact professionals.
Otherwise, though, everything you could likely ask for is present here, counting an opening so spectacular you’d think its heroine, with her penchant for melodrama, had cut it together herself. To quote the advisability of Anne: “It’s been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will.” This trailer doesn’t make that tough to do.
